New tutorial videos have been added to the TeamPort site support library.

Our existing and well-received Getting Started videos cover installation, configuration, launch, and overview of the TeamPort platform. Now we've added 12 new short "Step" videos have been added to the support library.

Created for beginning users, these videos share basic steps to gain familiarity with building a project model, running simulations of various types, and exploring and comparing forecasts.

In addition to the User Guides, the videos are in response to requests from our students and users around the world.  Take a look!

The Instrumentation of Teamwork Linked to Systems Models of Problem and Solution

Abstract

Organizations working with engineered and manufactured systems have decades of pioneering experience in the design, implementation, and operation of instrumented products.  Aerospace, automotive, maritime, and building systems are often highly laden with sensors that observe real-time performance of these products as they operate.  Remote observers communicate and control these systems from afar.  Over the lifetime of these systems – airplanes, cars, buildings, and ships – data on the performance across a large set of diverse, released product systems reveals much about the gap between as-designed, as-built, and as-operated actual systems.

Even though the IoT trend is not new, the scale, reduced latency and cost, heterogeneity, and especially interconnectivity of these systems across economic and social infrastructures have advanced dramatically. For this talk, rather than viewing sensor and data product by product, we consider the combined performance of instrumented products and instrumented people.

Instrumentation of teamwork will be shown as the capability to see and predict in real time the performance of human teams as they work, coordinate, wait, make mistakes, adjust and learn (or not.)  In this presentation we will focus on the instrumentation and analysis of engineering teams, and other teams of diverse capability working on complex systems.  To take advantage of these opportunities, not only will the design of our engineered systems advance, but also how we engineer will be transformed.  The important concurrent trend in model-based or digital engineering along with IoT will be considered.

Bryan Moser, founder of GPD, recently edited a new book in partnership with the Project Management Institute's Brightline Initiative and MIT's System Design and Management.

Based on research, papers, talks, and workshops at an event in 2018, the book examines the research and practices which expose the growing gap between the strategy function of firms and project implementation.

Model-based project management leading to Project Design was highlighted in discussions and hands-on workshops.

The book can be downloaded at the PMI Brightline website: link to Brightline here.

In February 2017 in Tokyo, GPD and GTL are supporting 2 events which will bridge the Boston and Tokyo AI and analytics community.

On February 4th, Saturday, GTL will host the 5th Global Teamwork Symposium at the U Tokyo Hongo campus.  Starting in the morning with hands on workshops from leading US and Japan A.I. innovators, the afternoon will including panels and speakers in response to 2 key questions:  how must enterprises transform to be ready for performance in a data rich world?  How must universities prepare the next generation of students and research?

On February 7th and 8th, a major industrial conference called "Big Data Analytics Tokyo" will be held at Roppongi Academy Hills. GPD's Dr. Moser will speak on the latest research strategies for business performance through teamwork analytics enabled by instrumented project design workshops.

The fourth GTL symposium leveraged GPD's TeamPort platform as part of a new research strategy on the instrumentation of teams and their problems across boundaries. Six teams collaborated and competed in a teamwork experiment, for the design and optimization of  the complex system engineering.  After the competition, the experience, path, and results of each team we analyzed and participants learned about Project Design deeply.

Reinventing Innovation: A Systems-Based Approach to New Products, New Services, and a New World
September 28, 2016          Wong Auditorium, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Successful companies in every industry, from automotive and healthcare to high-tech and manufacturing, are using whole-systems approaches to understand, traverse, reimagine, and reinvent the entire innovation ecosystem. To support these efforts, MIT’s annual Conference on Systems Thinking for Contemporary Challenges, sponsored by MIT System Design & Management (SDM), will provide practical information from multiple industries to spark ideas for using systems thinking, integrated design, and management in your domain.
In advance of the conference, MIT faculty will lead back-to-the-classroom sessions on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 27, that will frame the three-fold nature of the whole-systems approach to design—technical, managerial, and socio-political—and discuss ways of using it to address practical business problems.

The daylong conference on September 28 will feature MIT experts and industry leaders discussing best practices and lessons learned in a wide range of areas, including GPD's CEO Bryan Moser.

Global Teamwork Lab symposium series continues with an industry focused event. Designing, Engineering, and Production of competitive products requires global teams, common platforms yet flexible local standards and practices. Our project management standards and experiences from the 20th century are not sufficient. New research and methods on the integration of system engineering, system architecture, and project management methods will be introduced and open for discussion during this symposium.
